Hullo there.
Those of you who are my face-to-face friends - that is, those of you who are able to and cool enough to see me in person on a regular basis - and many of you who are on my facebook may have noticed something different about my face.
If you haven't, don't feel bad. You're not alone.
On July 20th, in celebration of Amanda Fucking Palmer's fantastic album release/webcast party/escape from evil record company/general awesomeness, I decided to be daring and do what I've been wanting to do for months now: shave off my eyebrows.
I wanted to draw on some fantastic AFP-tribute eyebrows (she has been shaving hers off for about ten years and frequently changes the style and design that she uses), so first I tried following a youtube tutorial on how to cover your eyebrows with makeup to draw them on. That didn't work, so I looked in the mirror, looked at my razor, shrugged, and did it before I could change my mind.
It took two seconds for my younger brother and sister to notice a difference when I walked into the living room. It took two days for my dad, a week for my older sister and stepmom, eight days for my boss... I thought having squiggly black eyeliner brows would be a startling difference from my old natural blonde ones, but it continues to amaze me how many people don't take notice until I say something. I came to work one day with NO eyebrows at all, and my boss didn't notice until I commented about them after my shift.
It makes me wonder how often we look at people without really seeing at them. Quick, name the eye colours of all of your family members. My brother's are brown; my mom's are brown, and my dad's eyes are...blue? Yes, blue; both of my sisters have dark eyes, brown probably, which I think they got from their mom.
Hmm.That took too long for comfort.
From now on I'm going to look, to make sure I really see things.
P.S.
Blame Marc for this.
